S. 1834

Protecting Seniors During Disasters Act

To amend title XXVIII of the Public Health Service Act to establish a National Advisory Committee on Seniors and Disasters. This legislation is sponsored by Senators Bill Nelson (FL), Marco Rubio (FL), Bob Casey (PA), and Susan Collins (ME).

Dear [Senator]:  (NOTE: If your Senator is a bill sponsor, please modify the letter to thank them for introducing the legislation.)

I am writing to encourage you to co-sponsor and support S. 1834 to establish a National Advisory Committee on Seniors and Disasters.

As a provider of senior living in the state of [insert state], my company/ community [insert name] cares for [insert number] residents and employs [insert number]team members. Our experience with natural disasters has been positive but we know for many frail seniors both living at home and in senior living communities, these situations can be challenging and traumatic.

S. 1834 would direct the Secretary of HHS, in conjunction with other appropriate Secretaries, to appoint members of a national Advisory committee to provide advice and recommendations to the Secretary with respect to seniors and emergency preparedness and response activities. The Advisory Committee will be comprised of experts who will evaluate and provide input related to preparation for, response to and recovery from emergencies for our nations seniors.

I hope you will support this important legislation.
