Argentum to Continue CCRC Regulation Discussions with Florida Stakeholders

[current_event_date]

ALEXANDRIA, Va. – May 15, 2017 – Argentum is announcing today its sustained commitment to address regulation of Florida’s continuing care retirement communities with state and industry stakeholders at the conclusion of the Florida legislature’s 2017 session.

Legislation was proposed during the 2017 session (SB 1430/HB 1349) by Senator Tom Lee (R-Brandon) and Representative Cyndi Stevenson (R-St. Augustine) respectively that sought to implement new regulations impacting Florida’s continuing care retirement communities.

“We look forward to continuing our joint efforts with Senator Lee, Representative Stevenson, the Office of Insurance Regulation, the Department of Financial Services, the senior living industry and consumer representatives in our collective goal of reforming the CCRC regulations to ensure that Florida’s seniors can continue to enjoy the protections and lifestyle that this option provides,” said Ed Kenny, chairman and CEO, Life Care Services, and chairman of Argentum’s Public Policy Committee.

Argentum members Life Care Services, Brookdale Senior Living, and Vi, along with Kisco Senior Living, Erickson Living, and the Florida Argentum chapter played a leadership role in speaking with state legislators and regulatory officials regarding continuing care retirement communities and the impact of the proposed legislation on residents and operators of these communities.

“I commend the participation of Argentum and other industry leaders in actively engaging Florida legislators and state officials on this critically important issue,” said Argentum President and CEO James Balda.

“We are all committed to the best interests of the residents we serve and to ensure the continued viability of this popular senior living option.”

Florida’s 71 licensed continuing care retirement communities provide an excellent life care model for over 30,000 senior residents.  “Argentum remains committed to working with state regulatory officials to ensure they have the necessary authority and information to identify and hold accountable poor performers,” Kenny added.
