Argentum is monitoring the president’s intent to nominate key positions affecting aging Americans, caregivers, and senior living employers and employees.

The White House shared via its website this week its intent to nominate Lance Robertson for the Assistant Secretary for Aging role within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Robertson is a gerontologist who is Oklahoma’s director of aging services. As director, he supervises 17 aging services programs in the state including the Older Americans Act program and Oklahoma’s Home & Community Based Services Medicaid Waiver Advantage program.

The administration also announced the intent to nominate William Emanuel and Marvin Kaplan for two vacancies on the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB). Emanuel currently works as a labor lawyer. Kaplan serves as an attorney for the Occupational Safety and Health (OSHA) Review Commission and has previously provided counsel to the House Education and Workforce Committee. If both nominees are confirmed, the NLRB would have a Republican majority.

Additionally, after over two years without a full board, the OSHA Review Commission may also soon have remaining vacancies filled. President Trump has nominated James Sullivan for the final spot on the board. He is an experienced labor and employment attorney currently practicing in Philadelphia. Sullivan’s nomination would give the administration’s appointees a majority on the three-member commission.
