Assisted living providers can prep for consumer questions about new
nutrition guidelines for seniors as well as reassess their own
nutrition programs for residents by accessing the U.S. Department of
Agriculture’s MyPyramid Web site.
The agency released a new food pyramid for older adults late last month
to target the unique dietary needs of those age 70 and older.
According to a Washington Post report, the modified
guidelines still emphasize nutrient-dense foods, but now provide more
guidance about the types of foods that best meet the unique needs of
older adults. Detailed information about the new food pyramid for older
adults is expected to be published in this month’s issue of the Journal of Nutrition.
