Three million Americans receive care in U.S. nursing homes and skilled nursing communities each year and nearly 1 million reside in assisted living communities. According to the Centers for Disease Control, it’s been estimated that 1 to 3 million serious infections occur annually in long-term care settings, and as many as 380,000 people die of the infections every year.
