The National Institutes of Health has launched a public health campaign on the link between hypertension and cognitive decline and dementia.

The Mind Your Risks campaign is designed to raise awareness about controlling risk factors for stroke in middle age – such as high blood pressure – may reduce the risk of cognitive decline in later years.

“We hope that this campaign will lead people to think about how they can decrease their chances of developing dementia later in life,” said Dr. Walter Koroshetz, director of NIH’s National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS). “The Mind Your Risks campaign will offer some concrete prevention steps. Controlling hypertension is at the top of the list.”
