CHICAGO Pathway to Living, a Chicago-based developer, owner and operator of senior living communities, today announced the opening of Aspired Living of Westmont, a 107-unit assisted living and memory care community in Westmont, Ill. It is the first senior housing community in the United States to provide residents with Spark of Life, a breakthrough program of treatment and support for dementia care.

“We’re excited to bring life-changing housing and our signature VIVA! programming to older adults living in the south and west suburbs of Chicago,” said Maria Oliva, chief operating officer of Pathway to Living. “Aspired Living of Westmont fills a void in the market by delivering best-in-class care in a stimulating environment where residents can thrive as active members of a community.”

The Pathway to Living team joined residents and village officials in celebrating the opening at a Sept. 27 event. The celebration included a live music tribute to Chicago blues legend and longtime Westmont resident Muddy Waters, food prepared by the community’s on-site chef, and guided property tours.

Set on an approximately 3-acre site at 407 W. 63rd St., Aspired Living of Westmont offers 73 independent and assisted living apartments, including studio, one-bedroom, two-bedroom/one-bath and two-bedroom/two-bath plans ranging in size from 400 to 1,180 square feet. Each unit features a kitchen with stainless steel appliances, private bathrooms with walk-in showers, ample closet space, and Juliet balconies that open to the outdoors. In-unit laundry is included in one- and two-bedroom plans, which also feature a separate dining area adjacent to the kitchen and living room.

Available units at Aspired Living of Westmont also include 34 memory care studios, each with its own private bathroom. Residents of these units benefit from Pathway to Living’s A Knew Day memory care.

“Residents have been drawn to our community because of the full spectrum of care we’re able to provide,” said Oliva. “Our independent and assisting living residences can easily accommodate couples, allowing them to stay together even if one spouse requires additional support. As residents’ needs change, they and their families can take comfort in knowing they will be able to access additional services designed to maintain their quality of life.”

Pathway to Living’s award-winning VIVA! philosophy will infuse daily activity at the property, ensuring enriching lives through various social, educational and recreational pursuits. For example, residents might learn about a different culture one day and ride horses the next.

“Our immersive signature programming is dedicated to older adults looking for the freedom to live life to the fullest,” said Oliva. “While we understand comprehensive 24-hour care may be top of mind for prospective residents and their families, we also respect and encourage the desire to stay engaged and live an active lifestyle.”

In addition to A Knew Day memory care, residents living with dementia also benefit from Spark of Life, a pioneering program based out of Australia that complements Pathway to Living’s existing memory care platform. Pathway is the first U.S. senior housing operator to offer the program, which focuses not just on residents’ physical needs, but also their social, emotional and spiritual well-being through personalized care that seeks to reverse the symptoms of dementia – a process called rementia. Spark of Life has been shown to improve memory, language, communication and behavior, in some cases eliciting conversation from residents who haven’t spoken in more than a year.

In addition to industry-leading programming, Aspired Living of Westmont will offer residents access to a full suite of amenities that serve as an extension of their homes. Featuring interiors by renowned Arizona-based senior living design firm Thoma-Holec Design, the community’s common areas include a restaurant and bistro; resident lounge with demonstration kitchen; bar/cocktail lounge; library; technology center; movie theater; art studio; and salon and spa. Residents also have access to fitness options including a yoga studio, gym with personal trainers and state-of-the-art pneumatic equipment programmable to ability levels, and outdoor walking paths. In addition, an on-site therapy gym offers physical, occupational and speech therapy.

“Aspired Living of Westmont, like all Pathway communities, is designed around the lifestyles of residents and promotes engagement through thoughtful planning and programming,” said Oliva. “Our VIVA! philosophy is about helping residents celebrate life and find a sense of purpose, and that starts with creating a safe, secure space where those aspirational pursuits are not only possible, but encouraged.”

Aspired Living of Westmont is conveniently located near retail, restaurant and recreation offerings at the intersection of 63rd Street and Fairview Avenue. They include Mariano’s and Jewel-Osco grocery stores, the Green Meadows Golf Club, two movie theaters and several restaurants. The community is also close to nearby expressways, including Interstates 355 and 55.

The Westmont community is the second developed by Pathway to Living since the company formed an equity partnership with Waterton, a Chicago-based real estate firm specializing in multifamily and hospitality properties. The firms’ first joint project, Azpira Place of Lake Zurich, a 120-unit assisted living and memory care community in Lake Zurich, Ill., opened in May 2017. Pathway now has 31 communities currently operating or under construction throughout the Midwest.
