Mergers and acquisitions over the past year dramatically changed the lineup of top companies this year. Brookdale and Alterra merged to create the No. 2 company on the list. And Benchmark Assisted Living (No. 12), American Retirement Corp. (No. 9), Summerville Senior Living (No. 8), and Five Star Quality Care (No. 11) all posted significant acquisitions as well.
Summerville was the top capacity grower last year, with growth of 81 percent, followed by Benchmark, with growth of 65 percent. Many companies predict continued growth in their operations as well.
The annual Assisted Living Executive Largest Providers list is the definitive ranking of the largest providers in the business. Research is compiled by the staff of Assisted Living Executive from surveys and interviews with assisted living providers.
