Other Top Industry Leaders Named as Directors

ALEXANDRIA, VA — Chairman/CEO of Five Star Quality Care Evrett Benton has been elected chairman of the Assisted Living Federation of America’s Board of Directors. Benton succeeds Steven Vick, CEO of Signature Senior Living, whose term as chairman expires March 31. “Evrett is an industry leader held in high esteem for his passion and commitment to senior living. It will be a privilege to pass the gavel to Evrett as I know he’ll bring those same great qualities to ALFA,” said Vick.
“This is a very exciting time for our industry and for ALFA,” said Benton. “I’m looking forward to working with ALFA President/CEO Rick Grimes, his team, and a terrific ALFA Board of Directors to serve our members and to raise the bar of excellence in our industry.”
Other top industry leaders elected to the board are: Brenda Bacon, president/CEO of Brandywine Senior Living; Laurie Bebo, president/CEO of Assisted Living Concepts; Gary Becker, Vice President of Operations of Emeritus Assisted Living; and G. Michael Leader, president/CEO of Country Meadows Retirement Communities. Current directors Michel Augsberger, president/CEO of Chancellor Health Care, and Tiffany Tomasso, COO of Sunrise Senior Living, were elected as vice chairs. Mark Ohlendorf, co-president of Brookdale Senior Living, was elected secretary; and John R. “Skip” Comsia, president/CEO of SRC Retirement Inc., was re-elected treasurer.
Also continuing service as directors are: Loren Shook, president/CEO of Silverado Senior Living; Tom Grape, chairman/CEO of Benchmark Assisted Living; Granger Cobb, president/CEO of Summerville Senior Living; Brad Klitsch, senior vice president of market development, Direct Supply; and Horace D’Angelo, president of Caretel Inns of America. Vick will continue his service to ALFA as immediate past chairman.
Directors whose terms expired in 2007 include Thomas Fairchild, Ph.D., University of North Texas Health Sciences Center; Joe Eby, president/CEO of Bickford Senior Living Group; Laura “Beth” Cayce, president/CEO of CaraVita Senior Management Services; and Ross Roadman, senior vice president of strategic planning, Brookdale Senior Living.
“These retiring board members have made enormous contributions to ALFA and to our industry, and it has been a privilege to work with them,” said Grimes. “I’m excited about the new members of the board. Under the leadership of Evrett Benton, I know ALFA will continue to grow and make a difference for the industry, for our members and for the seniors they serve. ”
