(Alexandria, Va.) – The senior living community in the United States led by Argentum, Health Dimensions Group, American Seniors Housing Association (ASHA), and the National Investment Center for Seniors Housing & Care (NIC), is leading an urgent campaign to deliver supplies to war-ravaged Ukraine, specifically targeting seniors.
The four senior living-associated groups have teamed up with CARE to champion a philanthropic effort to raise these funds to help seniors in Ukraine with desperately needed food and shelter. Beginning now through May 18, contributions will help get urgently needed supplies like water, food, hygiene kits, and other ongoing support directly to seniors at risk from these hostilities.
“The situation in Ukraine is getting worse, and more and more innocent seniors are suffering as a result. This new program will offer a way for American senior living communities to reach out to the more than 7 million people aged 60 or older in Ukraine who cannot escape the battleground their country has become,” said James Balda, president and chief executive officer of Argentum.
He urged senior living communities and everyone touching the senior living industry to be part of the effort by encouraging employees and residents to spread the word about the campaign and asking them to tell family and friends. “Companies can also consider an employer-matching program,” Balda said.
Erin Hennessey, CEO of Health Dimensions Group, said, “Health Dimensions Group joins the world in watching with sadness as the war and humanitarian crisis in Ukraine continues. As an organization committed to the well-being of seniors, our hearts break for the seniors of Ukraine who are unable to get to safety and are facing violence, the lack of food, shelter, medical care, and the loss of loved ones.”
“We look forward to coming together with the rest of the senior living and care profession to show the world that senior living cares.”
Brian Jurutka, president and CEO, NIC, said his organization supports the efforts led by Argentum and Health Dimensions Group to provide basic needs of food and water for older Ukrainians during this horrible crisis. “We encourage those with a passion for helping seniors to support CARE.org by providing a donation which will be used to provide humanitarian aid in this time of need.”
Adding to the effort, ASHA President David Schless said his group “is pleased to participate in this important industry effort to raise much-needed funds to help older adults in war-torn Ukraine. We are encouraging our members and industry partners to make a difference with a contribution to CARE as soon as possible.”
