New Resource for Seniors and Family Members

Alexandria, Va. – The Assisted Living Federation of America (ALFA) today launched a new web site,, to help seniors and their families make informed decisions about senior living options.
For the many baby boomers with aging parents who can no longer live at home, this new web site debunks the myths and misconceptions which make seniors reluctant to move from home. The web site not only provides facts about assisted living but also describes what it is really like to live in an assisted living community by drawing upon the first hand accounts of  current residents, families of residents, and caregivers.
“This is a great place to start the process of researching alternatives to home,” said Rick Grimes, President of the Assisted Living Federation of America. “The new web site,, provides straight talk to seniors and their families from those with first-hand knowledge of assisted living communities. The site should help consumers make the best decisions about senior living.’’
Assisted living is a popular and cost effective lifestyle option for seniors who may be socially isolated at home yet need help in the activities of daily life, such as bathing, dressing and walking. While they do not need full time nursing care, many seniors are reluctant to move from their homes for fear of losing their dignity, independence and freedom of choice. More than one million Americans live in an estimated 36,000 assisted living residences.
Assisted living communities improve the quality of life for frail seniors by providing nutritious meals, an active social life, help with medication –while still maintaining optimal independence for the resident. This web site is a new tool to help seniors and their families make informed decisions about where to live.
