For Marty Sosnowski, 73, the water has always been more than a place to fish or sail. It has been a lifelong connection to service, family and the son who grew up beside him on local boats. That bond came full circle when Artis Senior Living of Brick residents and community partners set out aboard the Brick Tiki Boat with Marty’s son, Matt, at the helm.
The outing was planned as a meaningful experience for Marty, fellow residents of Artis Senior Living of Brick and the local partners who help guide families through the memory care journey. More than a scenic ride, the event created engagement and joy through familiar sights, shared stories and time together on the water.
Marty once shared his love of boating and fishing with Matt, who started fishing with his father as a toddler. Today, Matt has spent 25 years as a fishing captain and now pilots local fishing boats as well as the Brick and Belmar Tiki boats.
Marty’s own life on the water began long before the family fishing trips. He served in the U.S. Navy in the 1970s aboard the aircraft carrier USS Enterprise, where he worked as an engineer for F-14 fighter jets. Later, he became part of the original Point Pleasant Fishing Club on the Ideal in Point Pleasant Beach.
