Argentum Urges Congress to Restore Workforce Tax Credit

[current_event_date]

Argentum joined a broad coalition last week in sending a letter urging Congress to restore and strengthen the Work Opportunity Tax Credit (WOTC). The letter included support from 474 organizations and specifically called on Senate Finance and House Ways and Means leadership to pass the bipartisan Improve and Enhance the Work Opportunity Tax Credit Act (H.R. 6231/S. 3265) and include it in any year-end tax package.

The legislation would extend WOTC retroactively to January 1, 2026, through 2030; increase the credit from 40 percent to 50 percent of qualified wages; index it for inflation; reward longer-term employment; and expand eligibility to employers hiring spouses of currently serving military personnel.

For nearly three decades, WOTC has encouraged employers to hire individuals who face barriers to employment, including qualified veterans, SNAP recipients, second-chance workers and the long-term unemployed. Strengthening the credit would give senior living providers another tool to recruit and retain workers while expanding employment opportunities.

With congressional tax writers considering a possible bipartisan year-end tax package that could include WOTC, Argentum and its coalition partners are urging lawmakers to act before the 119th Congress adjourns.
