BALTIMORE—Brightview Senior Living, a leader in senior living that builds, owns and operates more than 40 senior living communities along the east coast, kicked off Alzheimer’s Awareness Month by introducing dementia care initiatives that will raise awareness of the disease, disease management, and prevention. In addition to supporting those living with dementia, Brightview is focused on promoting the steps that everyone can take to live healthier lifestyles and keep aging minds sharp.
“Approximately 5.8 million people in America are living with Alzheimer’s. Our mission is to empower the families and loved ones of those living with the disease—arming them with management tips, educating them about the signs of disease progression and preventative measures anyone can take to help avoid memory loss in general,” said Patrick Doyle, Ph.D., corporate director of dementia care at Brightview Senior Living.
Brightview Senior Living participated in local Walk to End Alzheimer’s events raising over $180,000 for research and hope for families living with dementia. In 2019, Brightview Senior Living has fundraised and donated over $250,000 towards Alzheimer’s Awareness.
“At Brightview, our experienced associates care for residents with Alzheimer’s each and every day, and we see the emotional impact this disease has on family members and loved ones,” added Doyle. “Our goal is to be a resource for our residents and their allies, as well as come together to participate in fundraising efforts to ultimately find a cure.”
To further cement their investment in Alzheimer’s awareness and prevention, Brightview launched the Brightview Bright Minds initiative last month. This program is a roadmap highlighting proven elements of maintaining and improving cognitive health. The five pillars—exercise, healthy diet, social engagement, mental engagement, and proper medical care— are integrated into the residents’ daily routines to better support brain health and cognitive function.
