Creative Competition at Artis Senior Living Celebrates the Spirit of Community

The moments that make senior living special often aren’t the big milestones. They’re the everyday experiences that bring people together, spark joy, and create lasting connections.

That spirit was on full display at Artis Senior Living of Wilmette, where residents, associates, and community leaders recently teamed up for a spirited Bathtub Grand Prix as part of National Assisted Living Week.

Five teams collaborated to design, decorate, and race their own bathtub-inspired creations, transforming a lighthearted competition into an opportunity for creativity, teamwork, and shared accomplishment. Throughout the event, residents and staff worked side by side, cheering one another on and celebrating the relationships that make community life meaningful.

The event reflects the heart of Argentum’s I Love Senior Living campaign, which shines a spotlight on the people, connections, and experiences that make senior living communities vibrant places to live and work. From brainstorming design ideas to crossing the finish line together, participants demonstrated how engagement and collaboration can foster a strong sense of belonging for residents and team members alike.

“This event was about so much more than crossing a finish line,” said Mary Villies, director of life enrichment at Artis Senior Living of Wilmette. “It was about our residents and teammates working together and celebrating the joy that comes from creating something memorable together.”

Across the country, senior living communities are finding innovative ways to create meaningful experiences that promote engagement, purpose, and social connection. At Artis Senior Living of Wilmette, the Bathtub Grand Prix served as a reminder that some of the most impactful moments happen when residents and caregivers come together to laugh, collaborate, and make memories.

For everyone involved, the race was less about who finished first and more about celebrating the community spirit that defines senior living. It’s the kind of experience that embodies why so many residents, families, and team members can proudly say: I Love Senior Living.
