For one local senior, a rod and a reel bring back a host of memories. Bob Harlan, age 85, shared his angling passion and made new memories with his great granddaughters when he and a group of Chelsea Place Memory Care residents went fishing. The group baited their hooks at the Cherry Creek Reservoir in Aurora, CO.
Harlan, an avid fisherman, recalls taking annual fishing trips to Minnesota and Canada with friends and family. He taught his two daughters and one son to fish and looks forward to initiating the great grandchildren in the art of casting.
“Fishing is one of those beautiful moments of bonding and legacy between father and son/daughter. A father teaching their family to fish imparts wisdom, love and the joy of nature, creating memories that will be cherished for a lifetime,” said Molly Lutz, life engagement director for Chelsea Place. “It’s important to remind residents experiencing dementia of joyful memories of the past. They can continue to express themselves through their hobbies and try new experiences.”
Chelsea Place, an Anthem Memory Care community, is located at 14055 E. Quincy Ave., Aurora, CO.
