Going for Gold: Pegasus Playoffs Bring Houston-Area Residents Together

Three Pegasus Senior Living communities turned friendly competition into a celebration of movement, connection and purpose during the second annual Pegasus Playoffs.

The cheers were loud, the competition was spirited and the smiles may have been the biggest victory of all.

Residents and team members from three Houston-area Pegasus Senior Living communities gathered June 18 for the second annual Pegasus Playoffs, a senior living field day that combined friendly rivalry with an important mission: raising awareness and support for individuals and families navigating Alzheimer’s disease and dementia.

Hosted by The Legacy at Long Meadow in Richmond, Texas, the event welcomed competitors from Pegasus Landing of Tanglewood in Houston and The Legacy at Falcon Point in Katy. For several hours, the communities traded their everyday routines for team colors, playful challenges and plenty of good-natured competition.

Social media posts following the event captured the energy of the day, describing the Playoffs as an opportunity for the Pegasus communities to come together and celebrate their residents through friendship, activity and fun.

Friendly Competition With a Bigger Purpose

The Pegasus Playoffs were created to give residents opportunities to move, participate and connect while generating greater awareness of Alzheimer’s and dementia.

The event’s inaugural competition featured activities including a walking relay, water balloon toss, cup stacking, cornhole, bullseye challenges and a crowd-pleasing Spintopia round. Family-friendly attractions such as a splash bucket, photo booth and petting zoo helped turn the competition into a broader community celebration.

The second annual event continued that tradition, demonstrating that meaningful engagement can be active, social and adaptable to a wide range of interests and abilities.

“Seeing three communities turn into rivals for a day was a standout from last year,” said Benjamin Chapman, health and wellness engagement specialist for Pegasus Senior Living, in announcing the event. “Round two will be bigger, louder, and just as focused on raising funds and awareness for the families navigating Alzheimer’s and dementia every day.”

Celebrating What Residents Can Do

Beyond the individual games, the Pegasus Playoffs reflected an important principle of senior living engagement: meaningful experiences begin by focusing on residents’ strengths, personalities and desire to remain connected.

Events like the Playoffs give residents a chance to represent their communities, cheer for friends, try something new and experience the camaraderie that comes from working toward a shared goal. They also create opportunities for team members, families and community partners to engage with residents in a fresh and joyful way.

The result was more than a day of recreation. It was a visible reminder that senior living communities can be places of energy, discovery, friendship and purpose.

For the competing Pegasus communities, the Playoffs may have produced bragging rights for another year. But the day’s most meaningful outcome was the sense of belonging shared by everyone who participated.

Keep the Stories Going

The Pegasus Playoffs are exactly the kind of stories the I Love Senior Living movement was created to celebrate. It’s the celebration of stories that show the friendships, creativity, compassion and meaningful moments taking place in communities every day.

Senior living organizations are encouraged to share their own resident competitions, wellness programs, community traditions and moments of connection on social media using #iloveseniorliving.

Every community has a story worth telling. Sometimes, it even comes with a medal.
