[current_event_date]

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.—Commonwealth Senior Living  announces that Richard Brewer will retain his role as chairman and relinquish his role as CEO to Earl Parker who will serve as Commonwealth’s new CEO. Parker previously served as president and COO. Michelle Hamilton, formerly senior vice president of operations, has been named COO.

“I could not be more proud of our team and their dedication to our residents and associates.  At Commonwealth, our product is our people, and even under the most trying circumstances this year, our people have performed.  I have great confidence in Earl’s ability to continue to drive our core values, performance and growth in the years ahead.” said Richard Brewer, who will continue to serve Commonwealth Senior Living in a part-time role as founder and chairman. Brewer founded the company in 2002 and led the company’s growth from three to 33 communities over the past 19 years.

“I am honored to take on the role of CEO, and ensure our residents continue to receive outstanding care, our associates have access to the support they need to be successful, and our investors achieve attractive returns to ensure that they continue to invest in this vitally important sector,” said Parker. “Since I joined the company in 2013, Commonwealth has grown considerably into one of the largest senior living providers in the mid-Atlantic, including Tennessee, Virginia, Maryland, and Pennsylvania. We plan to continue to selectively grow our footprint across our marketplace, in places where we can add value, bring our award-winning care and programming to more seniors and create new opportunities for growth to our associates.”

Parker has more than 30 years of leadership roles in the hospitality and senior living industries. Prior to joining Commonwealth, he was an integral part of the leadership and growth team for two large senior living owner/operators (Kisco Senior Living and Bell Senior Living) as well as founding and leading his own management company (The ELMS Group) for more than five years.  Parker has led the successful acquisitions of more than 45 senior living communities and has supported more than 80 senior living communities across the country.

He earned his MBA from UNC Chapel Hill’s Kenan Flagler Business School and his bachelor of science degree in hospitality management from Johnson and Wales University. Parker is active in Argentum, VALA, NIC and ASHA as well as having been a past board member of NCALA.

Hamilton commented: “Commonwealth has built a reputation for innovative programming and award-winning focus on its associates and care of its residents that attracted me to the company in the first place. I look forward to continuing to work with Earl and develop the talented professionals here who strive every day to improve the lives of seniors and the senior living industry as well as attract new leaders to our team.”

Hamilton will step into the role of COO where she will oversee the day-to-day community operations for the entire Commonwealth portfolio of communities. She has extensive experience in senior living operations, sales/marketing, branding, technology implementation, risk management, quality assurance, investor relations, and executive coaching and building teams. She received her bachelor of science in business and her MBA from Frostburg State University. Michelle has been an active member of Argentum and served as a committee roundtable chair for several years. She currently serves on the VALA board and has previously served on the board of directors for Pennsylvania Health Care Association and served as the chair of the Assisted Living/Personal Care Board.
