The ceremony also marked the 2021 Best of the Best Awards, recognizing innovative programs, products, and services that solve a challenge, advance excellence, and improve the future of senior living; and the 2021 Senior Living by Design awards, an annual program honoring architects, design firms, and senior living providers that create communities of quality in innovative ways.
“It was vital to use this opportunity at the Senior Living Executive Conference to recognize and share inspiring stories of the heroes who went above and beyond each and every day to ensure the safety and well-being of their residents through unique and enhanced services and activities during the most challenging of times,” said James Balda, president and CEO, Argentum. “They played a tremendous role in helping to keep senior living residents healthy, hopeful, and connected to friends and loved ones. Many of the innovative programs, technologies, and designs honored tonight were launched during the pandemic and will continue to influence senior living for years to come.”
2021 Best of the Best Awards
To acknowledge the extraordinary circumstances faced by the industry during the pandemic, the 2021 Best of the Best Awards honored member companies with programs, products, or services related to COVID-19 mitigation and management that solve a challenge or advance excellence in senior living. The 2021 honorees are:
- Radio Recliner, Bridge Senior Living: A nationwide program that lets the seniors be the DJs, phone in requests, and give dedications.
- PinPoint by CarePredict, CarePredict, Inc.: Targeted contact tracing developed especially for senior living, to help prevent outbreaks.
- Connecting Residents During the Pandemic, Merrill Gardens: Volara helped the provider custom-modify the Google Nest Hub Max product for senior living.
- COVID-19 Testing Dogs Pilot Program, Benton House / Principal Senior Living Group: Dogs were trained to sniff out COVID cases with the hope of developing an easier and less-invasive way to test.
- An honorable mention was given to the Evergreen Woods Podcast, Senior Living Communities, which broadcast 65 episodes sharing residents’ talents and discussions.

2021 Senior Living by Design Awards
The Argentum Senior Living by Design Awards, open to members and non-members, honor architects, design firms, and senior living providers that achieve innovative architecture in senior living communities. The 2021 honorees include:
- Azura Assisted Living and Memory Care of Brookfield at Mierow Farm, Azura Living, Brookfield, Wis.
- Brightview Grosvenor, Brightview Senior Living, North Bethesda, Md.
- Friendship Village Schaumburg, Friendship Senior Options, Schaumburg, Ill.
- Riderwood, Erickson Senior Living, Silver Spring, Md.
- Sunrise of Old Town, Sunrise Senior Living, Alexandria, Va.
The program received nearly 50 nominations. Honorees were selected by an independent panel of four judges from the architecture, design, and senior living fields. The honorees and nominees are featured in the 2021 Argentum Design Report.
