Retirement Unlimited Marks Opening and Licensure of Westmont at Short Pump

[current_event_date]

ROANOKE, Va.—The Westmont at Short Pump community held a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate its licensure and opening, Retirement Unlimited, Inc. (RUI), a family-owned and Virginia-based senior living community management company, announced.

The three-story, 120,590-square-foot community in Henrico County’s Short Pump area features 123 apartments offering residential, assisted living, and Inspiritás, RUI’s vision and adaptation for memory care. The Westmont at Short Pump, located at the corner of North Gayton Road and Pouncey Tract Road, is RUI’s 10th Virginia community and brings more than 150 new jobs to the area.

“We are excited to open The Westmont at Short Pump and welcome our residents to their new home,” said Doris-Ellie Sullivan, RUI president. “We worked diligently to create the highest quality community in the area with a focus on hospitality and elegance. Every detail was considered with residents and their families in mind, from the amenities and signature programs offered to the state-of-the-art safety measures incorporated into our design. Our distinctive approach to senior care is the result of having a highly experienced team of professionals with a true commitment to deliver quality care and customer service.”

The bright, colonial-inspired community includes buff brick and columns on the exterior, and “classic meets modern” interior accents. The entry area features an impressive double staircase and opens to a formal living room, library with computer stations, coffee & tea shoppe, and the Taste of RUI, a restaurant-style, fine dining room with a wine bar and demonstration area with pizza oven. The community also offers an array of signature programs, including RUI University, a lifelong learning program in a designated classroom; LUXE Unlimited Salon and Spa, a full-service spa with massage therapy, pedicure/manicure services, facial/skin services, and hairstylists; RUI FIT programming and gym, in collaboration with on-site physical, occupational, and speech therapists; and Leash on Life pet concierge services and dog park.

Additional amenities and life-enrichment programs designed to inspire engagement among residents and staff include The Cary Club, with a full-service bar and casual meals fireside or while watching the game, and The Twin Hickory Lounge, furnished with comfortable chairs and featuring a dining area, full kitchen, and catering options perfect for special occasions. Other amenities include the James River multipurpose room, theater, billiards room, card room, and multiple communal living rooms on each floor. There are also abundant outdoor spaces including courtyards, gardening areas, a pet park, and a beautifully landscaped area at the entrance to enhance the community.

Numerous state-of-the-art safety options have been integrated into the community’s design to promote a safe environment for residents, staff members, and guests. The community building meets I-2 construction standards with a steel and concrete structural frame, eight-foot-wide hallways throughout, and surface areas painted with the first-ever EPA-registered interior microbicidal paint, said to kill 99.9 percent of viruses, including COVID-19. The community also installed a GPS patented needlepoint bipolar ionization (NPBI) system along with an MERV (minimum efficiency reporting value) filter rating system to ensure continued purification of indoor air. An industrial generator is designed for both common areas and resident apartments in the case of a power outage. The community also offers touchless features such as sign-in and temperature checks at the concierge, hand sanitizer stations throughout the community, fixtures in restrooms and kitchens, automatic motion lights in bathrooms, and key fob entry to community entrances and apartments.

“With robust safety protocols in place, we can provide a secure and healthy atmosphere for our residents and staff members, as well as a safe experience for our guests,” said Sullivan. “We dedicated numerous hours in researching state-of-the-art technology to implement into our community to not only provide added protection during these critical times but also as proactive measures as we move forward.”

Residential and assisted living residents of The Westmont at Short Pump can choose from a variety of spacious studios, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom apartments with granite countertops and stainless-steel appliances. Several of the apartments also offer washers and dryers and full kitchens with stovetops, ovens, dishwashers, and full-size refrigerators. Many of the third-floor apartments offer vaulted ceilings.

Inspiritás memory care residents have their own LUXE Unlimited Salon and Spa, RUI University classroom, Taste of RUI dining room, living room, music and museum life havens, and a private secured courtyard with garden. Memory care residents receive compassionate care in a bright and spacious area designed specifically to meet their emotional, social, physical, spiritual, and cognitive needs. Memory care and assisted living residents can rest assured knowing that licensed nurses and full-time management nurses are onsite 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
