September 19, 2023 — Sagora Senior Living, operator of 50-plus communities across the country, is introducing an exciting new activity to its chefs for the fall season: Sagora’s dining services provider, Ben E. Keith Food Service, is partnering with Krusteaz for an Iron Chef Baking Competition featuring Krusteaz Professional’s Ready to Bake Brownie Batter.
Ben E. Keith has supplied the Sagora community kitchens with Krusteaz Professional products since 2003. The long-standing partnership made the fun endeavor come about quickly.
“We’re working to change the stigma around senior living dining,” explains John Tolbert, Sagora’s Senior Culinary Director Specialist. “We know that the food in our communities is nutritious, comforting, and fun, as well as being region-specific, and we want to showcase some of that creativity. Partnering with Krusteaz Professional is the perfect way to celebrate what we’re doing every day.”
With its Resident First philosophy, Sagora focuses on improving seniors’ lives through signature programming, five-star amenities, unparalleled care, and socially active cultures.
“The Krusteaz Professional Iron Chef competition is a great way to highlight our chefs’ artistry and introduce some new recipes to our residents,” he adds.
How the competition will work
The competition will have four regions: North, South, East, and West. Each of the four areas will prepare their best creation from Krusteaz Professional’s Ready to Bake Brownie Batter and then submit their recipe to Krusteaz. Krusteaz will then judge the four regional winning recipes to determine who will earn the grand prize: an assortment of Krusteaz Professional products, professional baking tools, and a red KitchenAid 6-quart bowl lift stand mixer.
“We’re excited to see what the senior living communities come up with for this competition,” says Jeff Johnson, Regional Business Development Manager with Krusteaz Professional. “The theme is ‘Fall Fun.’ We’ve asked that the chefs include at least two ingredients: pumpkin, pumpkin spice (seasoning), candy corn, apples, cherries, and cranberries. We know they are going to knock this out of the park!”
The contest began on Tuesday, September 5, and runs through Friday, September 22. The regional and grand prize winners will be notified by Krusteaz Professional and sent their prizes. The company also plans to highlight the winning recipes on Krusteazpro.com and its social media channels.
“We’re ready to get into the fall spirit, and this competition will be a great way to kick things off,” shares John. “We know there are so many great chefs in senior living dining, and we can’t wait to see what they can do. May the best chef win!”
