
The recissions package is now being considered by the U.S. Senate, which must act by this Friday, July 18. The Congressional Budget and Impoundment Control Act of 1974 only requires a simple majority for passage in the Senate; however, there is significant disagreement between what the House-passed package and the priorities of the Senate, including Senate Appropriations Chair Susan Collins (R-ME).
The White House may seek additional rescission packages directed at other federal spending later this year to reduce other discretionary spending. Argentum will closely monitor these efforts and any potential spending cuts related to long-term care.
