Last week, Sunrise Senior Living of Haverford, a member community of the Pennsylvania Assisted Living Association (PALA), welcomed U.S. Representative Mary Gay Scanlon (PA-5) for a visit and tour of its recently renovated community, demonstrating the power of advocacy that begins right at home.
The visit provided an important opportunity for meaningful, on-the-ground conversations about the growing need to increase access to, and affordability of, senior living across Pennsylvania. Discussions focused on two critical priorities for the industry: establishing a dedicated Medicaid waiver for assisted living services and advancing a long-overdue increase to the state supplement for SSI recipients living in personal care homes.
Congresswoman Scanlon spent time engaging with residents and team members, gaining firsthand insight into the essential role that personal care homes and assisted living communities play in Pennsylvania’s long-term care continuum. These interactions underscored the value of community-based care models that support independence, dignity, and quality of life for older adults.
Argentum would like to thank PALA and Sunrise Senior Living of Haverford for coordinating this visit and for sharing their story. We are also grateful to Congresswoman Scanlon for taking the time to listen, learn, and engage with the seniors and professionals who make this work possible every day.
Turn Local Engagement into Lasting Impact
Community visits like this one are among the most effective ways to educate lawmakers and influence policy. When elected officials see our communities in action, hear directly from residents, and meet the professionals who deliver care, policy conversations become more informed and more impactful.
Now’s the time to build on this momentum by hosting your own community visit with a lawmaker. To help you get started, download our Community Visit Toolkit, which includes step-by-step guidance, talking points, and outreach templates to make planning easy and effective.
A Front-Row Opportunity to Engage Federal Leaders
One of the most powerful elements of the Argentum Public Policy Fly-In happens even before formal Hill visits begin. This year’s pre-event Congressional reception already has 13 Members of Congress confirmed to attend, offering participants a rare opportunity to engage directly with federal policymakers in a more informal, relationship-building setting.
These receptions set the tone for the days ahead, allowing senior living leaders to introduce themselves, share their community stories, and begin meaningful conversations before stepping into scheduled meetings on Capitol Hill. It’s often where connections are made, trust is built, and lawmakers gain a deeper understanding of the real-world impact their decisions have on senior living providers, residents, and families.
Combined with structured advocacy training and coordinated Hill meetings, the Fly-In offers a comprehensive, high-impact advocacy experience, one that turns individual voices into a unified message for the industry.
Now is the moment to act. Through February 2, Argentum has rolled back registration pricing to early bird rates, the lowest prices that will be offered for this year’s Fly-In. This limited-time flash sale makes it easier to attend, bring colleagues, and ensure your organization is represented during these critical conversations. Learn more and register.
