Wildwood Senior Community Welcomes 71 Residents After Hurricane Milton

[current_event_date]

The Harrison of Wildwood Senior Living, in partnership with manager Sagora Senior Living, has taken in 71 residents from a retirement community in Port Charlotte to ensure their safety during the extreme weather.

The team, led by Executive Director Chris McDowell and Sagora’s Regional VP of Operations Melissa Sloper, implemented a protocol for welcoming displaced residents. The evacuees, though exhausted from their journey, were greeted with entertainment, a hot buffet, and the warmth of the community upon arrival. A photo is attached of the welcoming team.

While The Harrison’s focus has been on caring for their residents, they are also coordinating with the Sagora home office in Ft. Worth, TX, to ensure smooth communication between all communities.

Per their hurricane evacuation protocol, the home office team is sourcing supplies, managing bus schedules, and delivering medical equipment and extra generators to handle any unforeseen emergencies. The Harrison is fully prepared with two generators to power the community and withstand any challenges brought by the hurricane.

“It’s a demonstration of Sagora’s “Resident First” motto put into action,” reflects Christal Hoffman, Vice President of Corporate Operations for Sagora. “That message extends beyond just our own communities. We need to support our fellow operators and keep seniors safe during this critical time.”

Corporate Director of Lifestyles and Pathways, Tamorra Sims, will be initiating fundraising efforts for the senior residents and staff, specifically to create an Amazon Wishlist where individuals can purchase basic items and items requested.

Sagora operates 10 communities in Florida with The Harrison furthest inland. Two are on the west coast and seven alongside the east coast. For more information about The Harrison of Wildwood, please visit their website.
