ALFA is inviting its members to fight ageism by hosting a screening of the new PBS documentary Age of Champions, an uplifting story about a group of athletes competing in the Senior Olympics. The film follows a 100-year-old tennis player, 86-year-old pole vaulter, and team of basketball grandmothers as they overcome adversity in their quest for gold at the Senior Olympics. Age of Champions tells the story of seniors who are powerful, determined, and strong—seniors that defy traditional stereotypes of older adults.
Through this screening opportunity, ALFA members can kick start the conversation about ageism, active aging, and staying engaged in life as an older adult. When hosting a screening, have residents and those in your community join you as you utilize the various aspects of the screening kit. The screening kit includes the DVD, discussion guides, active aging bracelets, postcards, and a full-size poster.
