2009 Federal Advocacy Fly-In

[current_event_date]

March 30th & 31st here in Washington, D.C.

As the nation stands in the shadow of an historic election,
there is no doubt that 2009 is indeed the Year of the
Advocate.

It is in that spirit of civic excitement that we invite you to
join us for our 2009 Federal Advocacy Fly- In to be held on March 30th
& 31st here in Washington, D.C.

You may have noticed that ALFA has a renewed interest in the
engagement of our members in direct congressional grassroots lobbying.
That’s because we know at ALFA that the best advocates for assisted
living are indeed our members.

We will arm you with facts, figures, and talking points – but
it is you who make our efforts successful
by engaging your congressional representatives directly and speaking to
them passionately and with your own anecdotal evidence of a system that
by and large works (oversight of assisted living in each state), or of
a system that needs repair (the Medicare Part D program and it’s
institutional bias towards skilled nursing facilities).  We’ll
also voicing our opposition to the so-called Employee Free Choice Act
and the so-called Fairness in Nursing Home Arbitration Act as both
pieces of legislation could be filed at any time.

Your participation in ALFA’s grassroots lobbying efforts is
paramount to the industry’s success on Capitol Hill.
