Description:
Social engagement is a critical component in enhancing the quality of life for residents with memory care needs. Achieving social engagement from residents is based on truly understanding the concept, which is both person centered and quality of life driven. This session will provide information on actual social science research related to dementia care and social engagement. And provide tips on how to critically assess, evaluate, design, and execute a more effective social engagement program at your community. Useable techniques that focus on the resident, their emotional connection to social stimulus, and the “whole” team involvement in both structured and unstructured group and individual interactions will be reviewed.
