Groundbreaking National Alzheimer’s Project Act Passes in Congress

[current_event_date]

Last week, the U.S. House overwhelmingly passed the National Alzheimer’s Project Act (NAPA), which is now awaiting the President’s signature. NAPA creates a coordinated national plan to overcome the Alzheimer’s crisis and ensure the coordination and evaluation of all national efforts in Alzheimer’s research, clinical care, institutional, and home- and community-based programs and their outcomes.

Since 1990, ALFA and its members have advocated for a long-term service and support framework that embraces accessibility, choice, dignity, independence and quality of life for seniors and their families. The work of the Alzheimer’s Foundation, ALFA, and others was instrumental in getting the Act passed.

ALFA listens to consumers and works tirelessly with state regulators to evolve our resident-centered care model to serve the millions of more seniors expected to have memory loss in the years ahead and those simply needing assistance with activities of daily living. NAPA is a major victory. For more details and to view the C-SPAN coverage where ALFA board member and Silverado President Loren Shook testified about the importance of the legislation, visit www.alfa.org/alfa/Hearings.asp.
