WICHITA, Kansas—Melissa Briscoe has been hired as Kansas/Colorado regional healthcare director for Legend Senior Living.
Briscoe, a registered nurse, earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Kansas Medical Center and has spent the largest part of her nursing career in nursing administration. Prior to accepting the position with Legend, Briscoe worked as director of nursing at the Catholic Care Center and director of quality and infection control for Ascension. She also has a degree in business management and more than 18 years in leadership, administration, and customer service. She specializes in quality improvement, infection prevention, and employee retention.
“Early in my nursing career, I developed a passion for serving seniors. It’s driven me for two decades. In this broader role, I’m excited to help develop the healthcare service of the Legend communities in this region,” said Briscoe, who stresses the importance of personal connections and team-building with fun, creative ways to “ignite that same passion in others.”
“We chose Melissa for her obvious love of service, and for her long-proven skill in developing professionalism in nursing and creating a healthy workplace environment,” said Kristin Sutton, Legend vice president of clinical services, in announcing Briscoe’s appointment. “We think the people we choose for these leadership roles, like Melissa, say everything about our commitment to our mission of service to seniors and their physical, mental and spiritual health.”
Her responsibilities at Legend include providing clinical oversight and leadership to eight communities in Kansas and two in Colorado. As the regional healthcare director, she assesses outcome metrics to improve processes to align with Legend Senior Living standards.
“Also, Melissa will be an invaluable mentor to the residence health care directors and their clinical teams,” added Sutton.
