[current_event_date]

ALEXANDRIA, Va. — September 20, 2011 — ALFA, the leading voice for professionally-managed, consumer-driven senior living communities, today welcomed nine senior living staff professionals to Capitol Hill to meet with their Senators and Representatives and share their experiences. These professionals are recipients of the prestigious ALFA Hero Award as well as recipients of the prestigious ALFA Champion of Senior Living Award.

Out of a pool of 650 nominations, the ALFA 2011 Hero Award and ALFA Champion of Senior Living Award honor senior living professionals, who exemplify ALFA’s core principles of choice, accessibility, independence, dignity, and quality of life for all seniors. These Heroes and Champions were chosen for their compassion, dedication, and commitment to resident centered service. The ALFA Hero Award and ALFA Champion of Senior Living Award winners serve as representatives of the thousands of senior care workers who go above and beyond their job assignments.

“These extraordinary senior care professionals are the best advocates for senior living,” said President & CEO Richard P. Grimes. “These men and women are passionate about the seniors they serve and work tirelessly every day, like hundreds of thousands of other senior living professionals, to ensure that senior living residents enjoy a high quality of life. The ALFA Heroes and Champions have personal stories and first-hand experience that resonate with lawmakers in an extremely powerful way.”

The Heroes on the Hill event supports ALFA’s public policy efforts on a broader level by educating lawmakers on the senior living industry and strengthening relationships with Congressional leaders. Attendees include the following ALFA Heroes and Champions:
