U.S. Senate Consideration of Employee Free Choice Act Imminent!
Assisted Living Providers Should Contact Senators Urging Opposition
The Assisted Living Federation of America (ALFA) has learned that
the full Senate may bring either the House (H.R. 800) or Senate
(S.1041) version of the Employee Free Choice Act (EFCA) to a vote as
early as next week.
The so called “Employee Free Choice Act” would require employers to
recognize a union if the union presents signed authorization cards
(“card checks”) from a majority of employees, depriving employees the
opportunity of casting a private ballot when making this important
decision.
Senate Members in favor of the EFCA will likely introduce a motion
for cloture, which requires 60 votes, to end efforts to filibuster
(debate) the legislation. Senate Republicans have committed to
filibuster in order to prevent the passage of this unjust legislation.

Please act by Monday, June 18: ALFA is urging all assisted living
providers to call both U.S. Senators in the states in which you operate
and urge them to oppose H.R. 800 and S.1041, The Employee Free Choice
Act. It is very important that you frame your opposition to the
legislation in terms of all workers should have the right to decide by
secret ballot whether they wish to have a union represent them rather
than making employer vs. employee or anti-union arguments.

assisted living communities in (SENATOR’S STATE).
I am calling to ask Senator (SENATOR’S LAST NAME) to oppose H.R. 800 and S.1041, the so called Employee Free Choice Act.
I want Senator (SENATOR’S LAST NAME) to understand that this
legislation would deprive workers in the assisted living communities I
(OPERATE OR WORK WITH) as well as all businesses in the state of the
secret ballot when deciding whether to have union representation.

or her consideration of my concerns regarding the so called Employee
Free Choice Act.
