Nowhere is the power of volunteer engagement clearer than in advocacy. In 2025, Argentum’s policy efforts gained significant traction, including recognition of President and CEO James Balda as a Top Lobbyist by The Hill for the fourth consecutive year.

But those wins weren’t achieved by staff alone. Members played a critical role by participating in the Public Policy Fly-in, engaging in more than 110 congressional meetings, and hosting over 130 community visits with lawmakers. These visits, often organized and led by volunteers, bring policy conversations to life through resident stories, caregiver perspectives, and firsthand community experiences.

Committees help shape advocacy priorities, inform messaging, and identify opportunities for engagement. For members looking to make a tangible impact without becoming policy experts overnight, volunteering provides a practical and supported entry point into advocacy leadership.

The workforce challenges facing senior living demand collaborative solutions, and once again, volunteer leadership is central. This foundational work, defining role progression, skill alignment, and training requirements, will rely heavily on committee input from operators and leaders who understand workforce realities.

Leadership development and Women in Leadership

Last year, Women in Leadership reached thousands across the industry, supported by volunteers who helped guide programming and foster meaningful networks.
